This one is for the girls.
What do you think of Soap & Glory? I am an old fan of the cosmetic brand’s faux-retro, cheeky-sloganed packaging and over the top girly scents. It was love at first sight when I discovered them way back in London.
I was chuffed to come across their 10 year anniversary gift set at all-time-favourite Boots Bond Street branch. Offered for £20, the super-cool pink tin box sports 9 products, including S&G classics like the Righteous Butter and Sexy Mother Pucker.
Buying it was clearly inevitable.
What’s in the Box?
The Righteous Butter™, CLEAN ON ME™, THE SCRUB OF YOUR LIFE™, HAND FOOD™, HEEL GENIUS™, ORIGINAL PINK™ Body Spray, Face Soap and Clarity™, SEXY MOTHER PUCKER™ Lip Plumping Gloss, Thick & Fast™ HD Mascara.
The Righteous Butter™ (£10.00) is an award-winning classic. I have been using it for years as an everyday body cream and also like to give it as a gift (it tends to elicit enthusiasm). It smells of bubble-gum clean and has a rich, pampering texture.
CLEAN ON ME™ shower gel (£6.50) is another S&G favourite. Creamy and rich (featuring built-in body lotion), scented with the Original Pink fragrance, it is a delightful addition to the daily routine.
THE SCRUB OF YOUR LIFE™ (£7.00), HAND FOOD™ (£5.50) and HEEL GENIUS™ (£5.50) are all enticingly smelling, pleasant to use, decent products. Nothing to write home about (have bought in the past and probably wouldn’t re-buy in the future) but they get the job done and look good in the bathroom self.
ORIGINAL PINK™ Body Spray (£4.00) is a fun, fruity-floral scent, probably more suitable for school-girls than grown women. I use it when at home and to great effect as a house / clothes spray.
Face Soap and Clarity™ (£8.00) 3-in-1 Daily Vitamin C Facial Wash has the kind of name and product description that convinces you it is a must-buy (and I have bought it in the past but didn’t plan on buying again). It is an ok product, provided you don’t expect it to deliver on its actual promises.
SEXY MOTHER PUCKER™ Lip Plumping Gloss (£9.00) is a product I used to serially buy. It delivered 100% on its name, plumping lips to the SEXIEST effect. We grew apart for no specific reason so I was too happy with the prospect of rejoining with it. Bummer however: the anniversary box variation had nothing to do with the product I remember. An average lip gloss -neither good, nor bad- it fails to deliver any plumping effect or the prerequisite lip-tingling. Maybe the manufacturing process has changed or a lesser variety has been used in the box; either way it is not the product I expected. Still, a free lip-gloss.
Thick & Fast™ HD Mascara (£10.50) has been the product to truly disappoint. Neither thick nor fast – on the contrary thin as a veil and impossibly slow to implement – it needs layers upon layers in order to achieve a semi-decent effect. I was hung out to dry with this one, since I ommitted replacing my normal mascara before leaving for Quito.
Complaints aside, I am not unhappy with Sweet Ten-tation™ – au contraire, I am delighted to have bagged one. They had me at the fabulous retro pink box alone, so ending up with a supply of mostly sweet products at a fraction of the price is a ten-tation indeed.
Happy birthday Soap & Glory and to many more.
